`For two weeks starting from June 14, 1993, the World Conference on Human Rights will be held in Vienna, Austria under the Auspices of the United Nations. The first World Conference on Human Rights was held in May 1968 in Tehran, Iran. Held after a hiatus of 25 years, this conference will evaluate the activities of the United Nations in the area of human rights since the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted. It will also guide the way for future activities that will promote human rights worldwide. Human right are inherent and basic to all humans historically, the development of free democracy in the United Kingdom, the Declaration of Independence and in the United States of America and the French Revolution, all contributed to making people more aware of the importance of human rights, Then in 1945, the United Nations Charter clearly indicated that one of its most fundamental objectives was the respect of human rights, On December 10, 1948, the third United Nations General Assembly adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, thereby guaranteeing the protection of human rights worldwide. Today human rights are one of the main subjects of diplomatic dialogue. The Ministry of Communications is issuing this postage stamp in the hope that the World Conference on Human Rights will serve as a stepping stone in furthering human rights.`
