`Korean ceramics and armor were exhibited in an 8 kan traditional tile-roofed house at the Chicago Expo of 1893. One hundred years later, Korea is the first developing nation to host an exposition officially recognized by the B.I.E. The Taejon Expo `93 will be held for 93 days from August 7 throughout November 7 this year, under the theme of ``The Challenge of a New Road to Development`` and subthemes of ``Traditional and Modern Science and Technology for the Developing World`` and ``Towards an Improved Use and Recycling of Resources``. Aproximately 100 countries and 20 international organizations and research institutes will participate along with the leading companies of various nations. Each countrys unique traditional technologies and culture will be introduced and solutions to problems faced by mankind including air polution and environmental contamination, which are the byproducts of advancements in hi-tech science and industrialization, will be presented. The Expo will confirm accomplishment made in this generation and forecast our future, and unlike trade exhibitions that focus on commercial transaction it is also coined as and Olympics of Economy, Science and Culture and will serve as a launching pad for Korea to join the ranks of advanced of nations. The Ministry of Communications issues of four postage stamps featuring drawings of the Govenment Pavillon, International Pavilion, Recycling Art Pavilion and Telecom Pavilion with hopes that the Taejon International Exposition will shed light on our search for a New Road to Development and contribute to the co-prosperity of mankind.`
