Detail
`The Second United Nations Conference on the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space was held in Vienna, Austria, form August 9 through 21, 1982.
The purpose of the Conference was to review and evaluate the major fields of development in space science and technology that have been achived in the course of space exploration in since the First Conference was held in Vienna in 1968, and to promote international cooperation in space activities, thus enabling all the countries of the world to participate in and benifit from the activities.
Since the birth of the space age, the United Nations has played a unique role, serving as the focal point for international cooperation on the peaceful uses of outer space, and also as a forum for the discussion of it.
As is well known, spectacular progress has been made during the two decades since man first put his foot in outer space, and if this pace of progress is kept up, it will not be long before most of outer space is explored. This is a welcome development because much of the technology created for the exploration of space will also be of great use in solving earth-bound problems.
The Ministry of Communications issues this special postage stamp in the hope that international cooperation in the exploration and peaceful uses of outer space will continue to grow so that all mankind will benefit from it.`
