`The 24th Olympic Games are held in Seoul, September 17 through October 2, 1988. The Seoul Olympics, with `harmony and progress` as its ideal, promises to be a grand world festival where a great variety of cultures will meet together in harmony in the cultural atmosphere of a five thousand year old country, and where the finest youths from all parts of the world will compete with one another in strength and skill in an environment of humane warmth of the hostnation.
In commemoration of the Seoul Olympic Games, the Ministry of Communications began in 1985 and will contine until 1988, to issue 32 kinds of Olympic postage stamps featuring the emblem, the mascot, the 23 athletic events and stadiums.
Sixteen kinds under this schedule have already been issued for the last two years. Eight kinds issued in 1985 were the emblem, the mascot, track and field, boat racing, basketball, boxing, canoeing and cycling. In 1986 eight kinds of stamps featured equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, weightlifting, handball, judo and hockey. The four postage stamps featuring wrestling, swimming, modern pentathlon, and tennis are issued among eight kinds planned for this year.`
