Detail
`Ch`usok, one of the biggest holidays of the year which is equivalent to American Thanksgiving, has been chosen as the theme for the 4th of the folkways series postage stamps. Ch`usok, or Harvest Moon Day, which comes from the Book of Rites, falls on the 15th of August by the lunar calendar. As the saying goes, ``Let things be like Harvest Moon Day-not better nor worse``, this is the time of the year when all kinds of fruit and grain are fully ripe while the weather is just right for outdoor activities, with the full moon on the night of ch`usok. The day has been and is regarded as the year`s biggest festive holiday, when people make many kinds of special food and wine, including rice cake, and give a feast to the ancestors at home and at their tombs, with the food and wine made from the newly harvested grain. The Ministry of Communications issues four kinds of connected postage stamps with ch`usok as the theme of design in order to help keep our traditional culture and folkways.`
