Detail
`As our living standards have improved, the number of artistic activities has increased, and with it the demand, in line with the global trend, for a multi-purpose arts complex.
In response to the call of the times, the government took the decision to build the Seoul Arts Center, and the ground-breaking ceremony was held in November, 1984, on a about 231,400㎡ site located north of Mt. Umyon, Sochod`ong, Soch`ogu, Seoul. In 1988, the Concert Hall and the Calligraphy Hall were opened, followed by the Arts Library in 1990. On February 15, 1993, the Seoul Opera House opens, comprising the Opera House, the Towol Theater and the Jayu Small Theater. This marks the long-awaited grand opening of a world class multi-purpose cultural center, which will be the part ofheritage to future generations.
The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp to commemorate with pride, the grand opening of the Seoul Arts Center.`
