Detail
`The Syringa delatata (Lilac) is selected for the issue of May stamp of plant series.
This flower, a native lilac indigenous to Korea, is one of the favourite plants widely used in Korea for gardening as well as ornament. It blooms during April and May in pale violet with fascinating fragrance and regarded as Mayqueen flower.
As flower language, it represents ``Beginning of love``, ``Rememberance of youth``, and ``Sprit of youth``, and the wild flower is likewise known as ``Modesty``.
Belonging to Fraxinus Family, it has wide elliptical or heart shaped leaves without down. The pale violet flowers bloom in a lump on the edges of old branches and their capsulated fruits ripen in September. Commonly shown in sunny place at the mountain foot, particulary in limesoil, sea level 100-1000 meters high, she is distributes in Hoang-hai Province, Pyung-nam Province and Ham-nam Province.
Because of its solide and lustrous nature, the timber is one of the selected material used in handicraft industry, and being burned well by green wood, it is best fit for fire-wood at comping.`
