`The international Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the first intergovernmental and the oldest of the universal organizations as it was originated from the establishment of the ``International Telegraph Union`` of which the first Convention was signed in Paris, on 17 May, 1865.
In the Congress of Vienna in 1868, it passed a Resolution of setting up a permanent body which was the precursor of the present General Secretariat of the Union. And now ITU headquarters harbours the four permanent organs - the General Secretariat, the International Frequency Registration Board (IFRB). International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committees and International Radio Consultative Committees (IRCC).
In 1947 the ITU became a member of United Nations as one of its specialized agencies and its member countries presently number 127.
During past 100 years, the ITU has greatly distributes in achieving the human`s cherished desire of shrinking time and space and in developing the means of telecommunication.
Fortunately the General Assembly of the United Nations designated the year of 1965, the happy centenary of ITU, as International Co-operation Year, so that the ITU will mark an another mileston in international co-operation.
The Republic of Korea is one of its members since 31 January, 1952, and this Administration issues a commemorative stamp in appreciation of the achievments and prosperity of the most ancient International Organization, ITU.`
