`The sweet brier has been chosen as the plant for the June plant series stamp. The month of youth, June, when countless flowers bloom in the mountains and fields. Of all flowers, only sweet briers express their beauty in the calm dune of seaside or on the slope of mountain facing the sea. The thick vines and red flowers bid farewell to the travellers leaving far-off land or welcome those who are coming back from abroad. The strong fragrance and the flowers in burning red are as if showing the virginal shyness and always alike the emotional and joyful friends to those who visit the seaside in the beginning of June. They bloom everywhere; above all, however, they exhibit the marvelous beauty along with the eastern coast, centering Kangnung, on the fine sand. They belong to the rose family which is defoliate, broad-leaved, and grow in shrub, having many thorns, with oval leaves facing each other covered with very fine hairy thorn. In May and June one or three red flowers bloom at the end of each branch, and the round fruits ripen in yellowish red in August. The Strong flavor of the flowers makes them used as the source of fragrance, and the fruits as medicine or food. Vertically, they spread below the sea level 1600; horizontally, however, they grow almost everywhere in our country, while geographically, we find them in Japan, Manchuria and some other lands.`
