Detail
`The rose of Sharon has been selected as the flower of the postage stamp for the August plant Series. The flower is beautiful, lasts long, and the tree is so strong that it can grow even by a cutting. It is our national flower, symbolizing the everlasting prosperity and development of our people. This flower that is wide-spreading in our country is as if soaked in the spirit of our people and their soul; so, they are more precious to us than any other flower. It will make the national liberation day more meaningful to publish the postage stamps designed with this rose of Sharon as the August 15th Plant Series of this year, on the 20th anniversary day of our National Liberation. This flower belongs to the family of Malvaceae that is deciduous, broadleaved shrub. It is about three meters high, with many branches and leaves which are like egg form. In July or August, ti blooms light violet flowers, one after another, between leaves and trunks. Besides, some of them are in white, violet and red. The fruits are capsules of egg type, covered with many fine hair, containing brown seeds in them. The herb doctors use the flowers and root skin as the medicine of stomach. They are cultivated near the human dwellings to be seed and to ues as a fence. They spread 100-500 meters above sea level and horizontally are found in our country, China, Japan, and so on.`
