Detail
`The forestation movement has been long since a Government policy aiming to inspire into the public the idea of afforestation throughout the country. The Arbor Day in Korea falls on April 4th and it is observed every year as an official holiday in order that everyone in the country can participate in the movement by devoting a day to planting trees. For a country like Korea, approximately 70 percent of whose land is covered by mountainous and hilly areas, the forestation of the country is especially important in an effort to enrich and strengthen the country`s wealth and power. For this purpose the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest is putting out a constant effort in advocating the public with the importance of this movement. The Ministry has established several forest experimentation areas for public demonstration and is carrying out a nationwide forestation movement for the purpose of promoting the interest of the nation through forestation and erosion control projects. On the other hand, the forestation is regarded as a royal road to beautifying the country. The green forests around one`s village will be not only the beauty of his home village but also a pride of the nation. To plant a sapling would mean to sow the seeds of national wealth while to cut down a tree without discrimination would result in erasing the same on the contrary. The Ministry of Communications has scheduled to issue a special postage stamp on th occasion in an active support of the movement to help propagate among the public the significance of forestation and its conservation. The design of the stamp depicts the model forestation in Hwasung-gun area of Kyunggi province as its background and the dense forest of Kwangnung, suburb of Seoul, as a front view.`
