Detail
`The 5th conference of Orient and South East Lion`s Club will be held in Seoul from October 15 through October 17. Mr. Melvin Jones, the founding father of the club and a leading American businessman laid the foundation of the club at a meeting on June 17, 1917, when he brought together his collegues who were interested in his purpose to help the needy people. The club has steadily moved forward since then, under the slogan of international Lion`s Club ``We Will Serve for Others``, until it has become one of the largest charity group of the world. Today, it is not only contributing to the constriction of welfare society in each country but also to the world peace. In our country, the first Lion`s Club was established in Seoul on February 19, 1959 and today there are 35 clubs throughout the nation with the affiliation of 1,300 membership. They are engaged in various activities of social work such programs as help for the blind and the rural development. The 5th conference to be attended by more than 1,500 delegates from eight nation (the Republic of Korea, Nationalist China, the Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore) and two territories (Hongkong and Okinawa) will be held under the conference theme ``Cultivation of Good Citizenship based on the Spirit of Lion`s Club.`` Under the theme, the participants will exchange mutual views on ``Security of a Nation and Responsibility of a Citizen``, ``Industry``, ``Education and Culture``, ``Social Welfare and Humanism``, ``Health and Recreation`` and the ``Urban Beautification.`` They will also have an opportunity to see the traditional Korean culture and the true picture of rapidly growing Korean industry. The word ``Lions`` stands for the English initial letter of ``Liberty and Inteligence is Our Nations Safety.```
