Detail
`The Ministry of Communications will issue three different stamps respectively featuring a badger, a bear and a tiger, the king of the animal kingdom, as the last part of the animal series for this year. Babger The badger, a family of weasel, is similar in appearance to (Noguri), with a total length of 50 centi meters, plus a tail 13 centi meters long. The badger, brown-colored at the upperparts, looks like covered with frost due to the whittish color at the hairs tips. The underparts, limbs, mouth and forward part of the head is tinted with dark-brown but the color changes in summer and winter. During the daytime, they inhabit in the deep woods and feed on the plant root, fruit, seed, snake, rat and rabbits they caught at night. Around a period from February to April, they give birth to a litter of 3-4 in their caves. The badger fur is used for winter-clothings, painting brushes, while its meat is edible. In our country, the furs of the badger have been used from the ancient times in making what we call ``Osoli Kamtu`` (a badgers hat). It is mostly distributed in Korea, China mainland, manchuria and Europe. Bear The bear, a bear family, has a total length of 1.2-1.9 meters with an about 8cm tail. The body is fat and black-colored while it has short limbs. Some have a white crescent in their underparts. No hair grows on the sole of the fore limbs, the shoulder is drooping below its vertebrate and the face of the animal is short. The bear inhabits in the deep mountain and at night feeds on chestnut, berries, plant root, budding leaves, ant, crab and fish. They are especially adept tree-climbers. They hybernate over the winter and have a 20 years life-span. Around February, they give birth to a litter of 1~2. In our country, the bear is regarded as a strong, yet stupid animal and is frequently fond in the subjects of many fables. The bear is particularly a familiar animal to our nation and there is even a Dankun mythology that mother of our founding father Dankun was a woman incarnated from a female bear. The gall-bladder is called ``Ungdam`` regarded as a precious medicine for digestion and detoxication. The meat is edible and the fur is used in making seat cushions. Tiger The tiger, a feline family, is the fiercest animal with a total length of 1.8~2.5 meters and a total weight of 200~300 kg. The tawny coat is transversely striped with black and the tail is usually has eight rings of black. The tiger inhabits deep in a rugged mountain and give birth to a litter of 2-6. It is a very truculent mammals chiefly feeding on deer and rabbit. In some case, man also becomes the victim. It is distributed in Korea, China, India and Java. The tiger is a typical animal of quick-act and truculent animals in this country and therefore is referred to in many proverbs. At the countryside, the tiger is locked upon with awe as mountain-god or messenger of the mountain-god.`
