Detail
`The Ministry of Communications will issue three new stamps as the third part of the folklore stamp series, featuring traditional Korean seesaw, swing and Ganggangsullae (dancing in the moonshine).
Swing
4won stamp depicts a swing, a game of vigor and delight played by girls who exert bodily back and forward on a rope suspended from a branch of a big tree, moving up and down in a great arc.
This is a game usually played by a girl on the Dano Day, one of the annual Korean festivals. It is a real sight to see a girl move high and low with her Chima (long Korean skirts) fluttering.
Our many legendary romantic affairs are associated with this game as is narrated in the famous ancient romance, ``Chunhyangchon`` and in other proses and ballads.
Korean Seesaw
Seesaw is the subject of 5-won stamp. Two persons ride on an opposite end of a plank mounted a support in the middle and take turns up-and-down.
This is also a game mostly played by girls. At the height of the game, some jump up as high as 1.5-2 meters. The origin of the game dates back to the Koryo age.Beautiful maidens in their bests wearing colorful hair ribbons enjoy playing this game particularly in the beginning of a new year.
Ganggangsullae
Ganggangsullae depicted on 7-won stamp is a folk dance unique to our southern provinces. In the flood of the silver moonshine on the Full Moon`s Day (August 15 in lunar calendar), all the maidens in town dance and sing moving hand in hand in a circle. Words of theGanggangsullae song varies with provincial area and a person who leads the chorus song and the rest of the girls repeats the refrain. The song starts in a slow tempo and gradually changes to a quick and quicker tempo.`
