Detail
May 8th is `Parent`s Day,` a day on which we express gratitude for the grace of our parents who gave birth and raised us and honor the virtue of respecting adults and the elderly.
Parent`s Day is said to have originated from the custom of commemorating the deceased parents during the Lent period in the Christian tradition in England and Greece. The tradition of attaching carnations on Parent`s Day is said to have originated around 1910 when a woman in the United States gave out white carnations to churchgoers to commemorate her mother. Then, in 1914, it became an official anniversary in the United States as the 28th President, Thomas Woodrow Wilson, designated the second Sunday of May as Mother`s Day.
As nuclear families accelerated due to industrialization, Korea also began to spread awareness and ideology regarding the care of the elderly. For its first step, from 1956, May 8th was designated as the `Mother`s Day` in Korea, and filial piety events were held to honor parents. Later, recognizing the necessity of `Father`s Day,` in March 1973, according to the `Regulations on Various Anniversary Days,` `Mother`s Day` was expanded to `Parent`s Day` and established. On Parent`s Day, children express gratitude for their parents` and grandparents` grace, often by attaching carnations to their chests as symbols of `love` and `respect. `
On the Love Parents stamp, a child is hugging their parents with a heart full of respect and love. Feelings need to be expressed for others to understand. If you haven`t expressed your love to your parents often, we hope you can warmly express your love for them this time with the words `I love you` and a big hug with affection.
