Detail
DetailTo boost public interest in stamps and to explore creative stamp designs through the participation of the general public in the process of stamp design, Korea POST has held an annual International Postage Stamp Design Contest. The 17th International Postage Stamp Design Contest was held under the theme of “Sharing Hope” from July 7 to September 6, 2011. In each and every corner of the world, there are, at this very moment, neighbors who are leading a life of hardship every day. Young lives are lost due to malnutrition caused by not being provided with even one proper meal a day. Too many children are forced to work long hours only to keep their head above water, without harboring any remote possibilities of a basic education. People are suffering from diseases, with no clean water to drink. And there are those who have lost their livelihoods overnight due to earthquakes, tsunamis and other disasters. As neighbors living in the same place called the Earth, now is the time for us to show more compassion and provide more help than ever. There is a saying that “pain decreases as we share, while hope increases as we share.” Let us nurture hope together, in line with the meaning of “co-existence.” Featured in the new stamps are: the work of Yeonju CHUNG, the Grand Prize winner in the Youth Category in the 17th International Postage Stamp Design Contest, which conveys the message of “let’s deliver the warmth of the fur hat to our neighbors in the global village”; the work of Glen M. Isaac, the Grand Prize winner in the General Category, which describes the children around the world delivering hope by piecing together one rainbow.
