Behind the global “BTS Syndrome” phenomenon is the rising pop icon of the 21st century—Bangtan Sonyeondan or “Beyond the Scene” (BTS). In celebration of their 10th anniversary since debut, Korea Post is issuing commemorative stamps to illustrate the history of BTS and what they have achieved over the past decade. Debuted in June 2013 and instantly recognized as the best new artist both in Korea and worldwide, BTS has grown to become a global pop band that represents Korea and K-pop. They have scored unparalleled feats not only on world-renowned music charts such as Billboard (US), Official Charts (UK), iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music, but also in terms of records sold, music video views and social media indicators, continuing to build their identity as a global artist. In 2021 at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, BTS became the first Korean artist to be nominated and to perform at the Grammys, and won Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards of 2021. Nominated at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards for the third consecutive year, BTS was able to perform at the top 3 American music awards including the Grammys, American Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards. The commemorative stamps were produced with ten carefully selected images from BTS albums: 2 COOL 4 SKOOL, Skool Luv Affair, The most beautiful moment in life pt. 1, WINGS, YOU NEVER WALK ALONE, LOVE YOURSELF 轉 `Tear`, MAP OF THE SOUL : 7, Dynamite, Butter, and Proof. The stamp sheet, which grabs attention with its shape of an asymmetric polygon, expresses the process through which uncut gems are polished by “sweat and tears” and turn into shining jewels. These commemorative stamps of BTS are also specially issued in a stamp packet as a valuable collectible. It contains a one-of-a-kind stamp book that includes the stamps and concept art from each album, which outlines the history of BTS at a glance. We hope these commemorative stamps serve as an opportunity to check out the decade-long performance of BTS.
