Detail
Korea’s national armed forces, started in 1948 with the establishment of the government of the Republic of Korea, mark its 60th anniversary this year.
Korea’s national armed forces had not even a single rifle at the time of its foundation. It witnessed hundreds of thousands of soldiers’ lives sacrificed to the brutal war, when North Korea launched a surprise attack on South Korea in 1950. Numerous soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice of their precious lives for their fatherland defending and assembling the freedom and peace we enjoy today. Korea’s national armed forces, as the soldiers of the world’s only divided country, have shouldered the poignant mission of having to confront and point their guns on the same Korean people. Our national armed forces have safeguarded our territory peacefully and safely. And when Korea faces strife due to mishaps and disasters, it takes the lead in providing relief, protecting the lives and properties of the Korean people.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Korea’s national armed forces, a new stamp is issued to pay a prominent tribute to the lofty spirit of departed war heroes and patriotic martyrs who devoted their body and soul to the Republic of Korea. It is wished that our armed forces will soar to become one of the world’s best and most advanced national armed forces and moreover, to make a significant contribution to peace around the world. Through the dove made of a string of identification tags, the new stamp embodies armed forces that safeguards peace. The two identification tags feature both the 60th anniversary and the Ministry of National Defense emblem that symbolizes Korea’s army, navy and air forces.
