Detail
` Adventures and challenges embody the freedom of youth. There is a sport that embraces the spirit of adventure and challenge as its standard ?- extreme sports. As the sport of youth that personifies extreme adventure, extreme sports include skateboarding, inline skating, BMX (Bicycle Motocross), snowboarding, etc. The phrase of “extreme sports” dates back to 1995, when ESPN, the U.S. sports media channel produced and broadcast a program titled “X Games” that featured youthful sports games where speed and amazing feats harmonized, naming these games “extreme games.” Various facets of Extreme Sports, alternatively called an “alternative culture for youths”, will be introduced starting from skateboarding, during the next 5 years through the issuance of new stamps. Skateboarding where the competitor rides on a long and narrow board with 4 wheels was born as an alternative to surfboarding in the 1960s at a beach in California, U.S.A. In every skateboarding events from those on level ground to those on a big butt-shaped cylinder like a half-cut, the contestant compete by seeing who flies higher and who shows more intricate tricks. The first set of stamps to be issued in this series features the dynamic scene of a skateboarding event in a butt, showing such tricks as Tail Stole, Drop In, Backside Spin and Backside Grab. `
