Detail
` Located at the center of the Korean peninsula, Gyeonggi province has been the center of history and culture since ancient times. Having designated 2005 as the ``Visit Gyeonggi-Korea Year,`` Gyeonggi province invites all citizens of the world to its exciting and electrifying series of festivities.
Gyeonggi province encompasses the nation`s capital, Seoul, and areas around the Hangang (River), in particular, have served as home to Korea`s ancestors since the prehistoric age. From the relics of the Old Stone Age discovered at Jeongok-ri, Yeoncheon to Suwon Hwaseong registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, the world`s finest ceramic legacy, and other remains from the past all testify to the magnificent culture that prospered in Gyeonggi province as the dynasties of Baekje, Goryeo, and Joseon all designated their kingdom`s capital in the province. In addition, the province is the focus of the world`s attention in the 21st century as it stands at the center of Korea`s economy, armed with advanced IT and other advanced, high-tech industries.
Blessed with breathtaking natural environments, including the tidal flats of the west coast, the pristine ecosystem of the DMZ, the Namhangang (River), Bukhangang (River), Mt. Unaksan, Mt. Yongmunsan and others, Gyeonggi Province will in 2005 play host to the World Ceramic Biennale, the World Peace Festival, the opening of Paik Nam June`s art gallery, the World Tourism Fair, the Seoul Motor Show, the Taekwondo Festival, the Anseong Baudeogi Festival, the Paju Soybean Festival and many other varieties of events.
What is more, the province is becoming a more attractive tourist destination as visitors can gain first-hand experience of what Gyeonggi Province has to offer through such programs as the ceramics experience, the tidal flat experience, rural area experience, eco-environment experience, and so many more.
Celebrating the ``Visit Gyeonggi-Korea Year,`` the Korea Post issues this stamp in hopes that the province becomes ``the beautiful Gyeonggi Province`` and ``the place to go.```
