Detail
`2005 marks the 100th Anniversary of Korea University.
Korea University was established in 1905 by Mr. Yongik Lee, who believed that the only way to preserve the nation and the state is by properly educating young students. At the time of its foundation, the university was called Bosung College, a name given by King Gojong, the ruler at the time. In 1946, the college was renamed Korea University by Mr. Sungsoo Kim (Inchon).
Widely referred to as Minjok Godae (`nationalistic Korea University`) due to its resistant and popular tradition, Korea University has lived up to its reputation by being a strong base for the anti-Japanese movement during Japanese colonial rule (1910-1945) and by contributing to anti-dictatorship and democratic movements such as the April 19 Revolution following liberation from Japan.
Some 230,000 talented graduates of Korea University are playing significant roles throughout the world, realizing its motto of `Freedom, Justice, and Truth.` We expect that like the roaring tiger in its emblem and under the catchphrase of ``KU Global Pride,`` the University will continue to grow to become a world-leading educational institution based on its new goal and vision.`
