Detail
` In expectation of making 2005 the starting year of another prosperous era for postage stamp culture, Korea Post is hosting various events, including autograph signing events by stamp designers, concerts and ceremonies to present commemorative stamps to mark the release dates of new stamps. Korea Post is also issuing postage stamps with a variety of themes. This year`s Philately Week is from August 3rd till 8th, when the 2005 Korean Philatelic Exhibition will be held at the Pacific Hall at COEX. The exhibition will showcase a large selection of Korean postage stamps including prize winning stamps from the Korean Philatelic Exhibition. In particular, the Postal History Hall holds approximately 170 valuable pieces including the original writings of Mr. Hong Young-Shik, who became the first head of the Post Office in 1884 and the Postal Policy of the Joseon Dynasty will be revealed to the public for the first time. The exhibition also includes 5 frames of North Korean postage stamps. In addition, audiences will be able to learn about postage stamp collection through lectures on philatelic culture and online events to design stamps by themselves. Visitors will also be able to take a look into the history of postage stamps and the methods of stamp collection by viewing programs from multi vision screens. The Currency History Hall will display the processes of minting currency and issuing stamps. Musical puppet shows and a magic show will also be held for younger visitors. The special stamp of this year`s philately week is the heat-sensitive stamp issued for the first time in the nation. The color of this stamp disappears if heat is applied to the part where the thermochromic ink was used. Checkered part and the P, B, D characters of the stamp, and the gift box, candles, and the dough at the selvage of a souvenir sheet are printed with thermochromic ink. The color disappears when one touches these parts of the stamp.`
