Detail
` Thus far in the ``Cartoon Series,`` postage stamps have illustrated numerous cartoons that pioneered the field in Korea, contributing to their popularization. The ``Cartoon Series`` has also featured the popular children`s cartoons that brought so much laughter and memories to all who read them. The issuance of the 10th packet in the series, however, will be the last. The newest postage stamps exhibit Lee Jeong-moon`s Wicked Boy Simsultong and Kim Jin`s Nation of Winds. `Find the Hidden Picture` have been inserted to bring even more enjoyment. Lee Jeong-moon`s Wicked Boy ``Simsultong`` Throughout his career, Lee Jeong-moon has created only screwy and perverse characters. His obsession with wicked personalities began in 1959 with the publication of the Wicked Old Man, and continued with numerous mean-spirited types such as the Wicked Official, Mr. Wicked, Miss Wicked, the Wicked Boy ``Simttori,`` the Wicked Girl ``Simssugi,`` etc. The more one encounters the underlying perversity in the Korean people, says the artist, the more charming and fascinating it becomes. In the Wicked Boy ``Simsultong,`` Lee creates a mischievous little boy to ridicule and condemn selfish members of society. In 1985, the comic strip debuted in the first edition of Sports Seoul and has been published in the sports news daily ever since. A compilation of the cartoons was also published in book form. Kim Jin`s Nation of Winds Long ago there was an ancient dynasty called ``Goguryeo (37 BC-AD 668)`` whose territory stretched from south of the Han River to north of the Manchurian region. Combining the worlds of myth and human experience, the Nation of Winds tells the story of this ancient kingdom, focusing on King Daemusin (AD 18-44), the third king of the country King Yuri (19 BC-AD 18). Daemusin`s father Crown Prince Haemyeong Princess Seryu Prince Hodong, son of Daemu and Sabi, Princess of the Nangnang Dynasty. Through these characters, the cartoon narrates the feud between father and son, the love and hatred among people, wars against the neighboring dynasties of Buyeo and Nangnang, and the efforts to found an ideal state. Nation of Winds was first published in the biweekly ``boy-meets-girl`` comic book, Danggi (Pigtail Ribbon), and since then, 21 single-issue comic books and a novel on the cartoon have been published. In recognition of the creativity of Kim Jin, who invented a unique comic genre by weaving together the world of myths and the ancient history of Korea, the Ministry of Culture & Sports awarded her the Best Korean Cartoon Award in 1998.`
