Detail
` The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded in Paris on May 21, 1904 with the signing of the Foundation Act by France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland (7 nations). In the early days, FIFA`s members were all from Europe but it soon began to open its doors to the world, accepting members from other continents. In 1921, Jules Rimet from France became the third president of FIFA. And during his 33 years in office, the world soccer governing body experienced an incredible upswing: i) FIFA was reorganized ii) the World Cup was first held iii) the number of members increased to 85. These were but a few of the changes. From the very first World Cup in 1930, held in Uruguay, to the most recent 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan, FIFA organized a total of 17 World Cups. And now, the Zurich-based body counts 204 associations as its members. Korea acquired membership to FIFA in 1948. And since its debut in the World Cup finals in 1954 in Switzerland, Korea made it to the finals six times, co-hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan in which it made it to the final four, and has firmly established its position in the international body. In honor of the achievements and accomplishments of FIFA in making soccer the most popular sport in the world as well as in celebration of the centennial anniversary of the world soccer governing body, the Korea Post is issuing this commemorative stamp. Titled ``The World Is One,`` the art work was designed by Ju-yup Han and was awarded the grand prize at the 2004 International Postage Stamp Design Contest.`
