`The 8th Busan FESPIC Games will be staged in Busan during seven days from October 26 to November 1, 2002.
The Busan FESPIC Games highlights the infinite possibilities of the human spirit by demonstrating the will to confront challenge and achieve victory by overcoming the limitations of being handicapped as well as the unhandicapped. This sports events binds the four billion people of the Asia Pacific region into one by creating a stage of true harmony of fellowship through sports. Over 2,500 athletes and officials from 42 nations will participate in the Busan FESPIC Games in 17 events including athletics, swimming, wheelchair base ball, archery, table tennis and wheelchair tennis. Under the ideal of ``Powerful Challenges Towards Equality``, the sports festival aims to foster harmony, friendship, love, sharing, wholesome lifestyle and hospitality. It is expected to enhance the prestige of Busan as an international maritime city and lead to the development of sports for the physically challenged as well as greatly contributing to the improvement of welfare policies and perception regarding the disabled.
The commemorative stamp that will be issued to memorialize the successful hosting of the 8th Busan FESPIC Games was an award-winning entry in the 2002 International Postage Stamp Design Contest. The stamp features rainbow-colored wings that symbolize harmony and flight.`
