`The Incheon International Airport (ⅡA), known as the Winged City, one of the largest sea-borne airports in the world, opened for commercial operations on March 29, 2001. Built on a 17,000,000 pyeong (56,100,000 square meters) of reclaimed land between Yeongjong-do (Island) and Yongyu-do (Island), some of the ⅡA`s facilities include, among others : two parallel longer and larger type of runways of 3,750-meter long each a 150,040 pyeong (496,000 square meters) passenger terminal building and four cargo terminal buildings with a combined floor space of 53,000 pyeong (175,000 square meters).The opening phase of ⅡA has an annual handling capacity of 27 millions passenger and 1.7 million metric tons of cargo.ⅡA is the first airport in Korea to operate all-round the clock.ⅡA can serve a wide variety of aircraft types and sizes including future new larger aircraft.The state-of-the-art airport is equipped with an integrated communication system for optimal operational efficiency.Its CAT Ⅲa Navigation Aids (NAVAIDS) enables safe landing and take-off.Teh airport is well served by multifacilities for one-stop services in business, leisure, shopping and lodging. Geographically and strategically located at the aviation routes connecting Northeast to North America and Europe, ⅡA, as the gateway for the world, will therefore contribute to the development of air transportation in the region.
