`Changdeok-gung, a serenely exquisite palace in perfect harmony with the natural setting... Changdeok Palace, built in 1405 during the reign of King taejong, the third monarch of the Joseon Kingdom, was constructed in the eastern section of the previously built Gyeongbok Palace, and is an annex palace of Gyeongbok Palace. Kings from Gwanghaegun (15th monarch of the Joseon Kingdom) to Gojong (26th monarch of the Joseon) conducted state affairs at the palace which has been restored and modifide numerous times over the centuries because of fires and other disasters. Changdeok Palace houses many important cultural assets including the Seonjeongjeon Hall, Injeongjeon Hall, Huijeongdang, where the king administered state affairs, Daejojeon, the queen`s bedchamber and Donhwamoon. The palace was recongnized as a cultural asset with distinguished and universal value deserving of preservation and protection for thd benefit all humanity by being designated as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1997. Seonjeongjeon Hall Seonjeongjeon is the Conference Hall of Changdeok Palace where the king deliberated state affairs with high officials. In the single-story building with nine rooms, the king would sit in the center in front of a folding screen that depicted the sun and the moon above the five auspicious mountains. The civil officials sat on the eastern side while the military officials sat on the western side. A scribe also sat in the corner, recording what they were discussing. seonjeongjeon is designated as Treasure No. 814. Injeongjeon Hall Injeongjeon is a hall in the Changdeok Palace where coronations, the New Year`s ceremonies, receptions of foreign envoys and other important state ceremonies were held. This two-stroy building consists of five rooms in the front and four rooms at the sides, the inside of which has no ceiling between the two stories. The terrace in front of the building is marked with Pumgyeseok, the stones representing the rank system, where officials would form lines along both sides of the Pumgyeseok according to their ranks. The Hall is designated as National Treasure No. 225.`
