`February 10, 1996 marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), which was established to promote scientific reserch and technological development to meet industrial needs.
Since its inception, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology has engaged in reserch activities in basic and applied sciences and cooperative reserch projects with other reserch centers at home and abord as well as with the academia and industry. It has thereby supported the industrial modernization of the country through promoting the creative development of industrial technologies and acted as the driving force behind the country`s economic growth and scientific development. Today, it is firmly positioned as the primary center of the nation`s scientific and technological reserch activities.
In addition to focusing its reserch and development capabilities on the development of future oriented technologies, basic reserch, and public welfare technologies, KIST is striving to yeild original reserch results through creating and nurtusing cadres of high-caliber scientists and technologies manpower and globalizing its reserch programs to gear itself up for the advanced industrial society of the 21st century.
The Ministry of Informationa and Communication is issuing a commemrative stamp to celebrate the 30th anniversary of KIST and to publicize the importance of science and technology in the hopes that KIST will develp into a world-class reserch institute, contributing greatly to national development and prosperity.`
