`October 15, 1996 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Seoul National Universary. Since its establishment as the first national university in Korea, Seoul National University has always pursued and fostered academic excellence creative spirit with a sense of misson for the country. Founded after the nation`s liberation from the Janpanese colonial rule, Seoul National University has represented the passion for learning and the endeavor to answer to the nation`s qustions, thus setting forth the intellectual and academic basic to overcome the turmoil after the Korean War and has established itself as indisputably the most distinguished institution of higer eduation and reserch in the nation. In the 1960`s, the plan for reorganization of the university was launched, and Seoul National University was relocated to the present Kwanak campus in 1975 with full features of a multiversity. Since the 1980`s, the university has been striving to develop into a world-class university geared toward postgraduate studies as the ``university of intellectual pursuit, of the people, of the world``. With the coming 21st century in view, Seoul National University is now intending another grand leap under the motto of ``Toward the futher with our people`` for the cause of the unification and development of the nation and, ultimately, the prosperity of humankind. Sharing in the joy of the occasion with the whole nation, the Ministry of Informartion and Communication is issuing a new commemorative stamp featuring the symbolic front gate and the school flag of Seoul National University in honor of the glorious 50th anniversary of its founding with expectations that it will continue to fulfill its role in the unification and development of the nation in the future.`
