`The Ministry of Information & Communication has been issuing stamps featuring wild flowers of Korea in order to publicize Korea`s natural scenic beauty both at home and abroad. This seventh collection of the wild flower series being issued in 1996 features four flowers. 1. Cypripedium macranthum SWARTZ This perennial herb of the orchid family is found in mountain grasslands. It is usually used in ornamentation. It normally grows to heights of 25 to 40 cm, and three or four oval leaves sprout alternately from its stem. Its reddish-purple flowers bloom from May to July. In Korea, this plant is also known as the ``lucky-bag flower`` because the lips of the flower petals look like large and round sacs. 2. Trillium tshonoskii MAX. This flowering perennial plant belongs to the lily family. It grows in deep woods, and is often used as an ingredient in natural remedies of is cultivated as garden ornamentals. It has one to three main stems stretching 20 to 40 cm tall, which bear oval leaves arranged spirally in group of three from the top. Its white flowers blossom in May and June. 3. Viola variegata FISCH. This flowering plant belongs to the violet family and grows on hillsides. It is edible and also serves decorative purposes. It grows up to 15 cm tall and has underground rhizomes, from which leaves arise, and no aerial stem. The leaves are either egg-shaped or heart-shaped with serrated edges. Purple flowers appear on this plant in May. 4. Hypericum ascyron LINNE This flowering plant is a member of the St.-John`s-wort family. It is grown as a decorative plant or for nutritional purposes, and is also used in medicine. The perennial herb usually grows 0.5 to 1 cm high and has oppsitely-facing, lance-shaped leaves. Light yellow flowers resembling weather-vanes bloom from June to August.`
