Detail
Organized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement every four years, the World Scout Jamboree is a Scouting jamboree for young Scouts from around the world. At the 41st World Scout Congress held in Baku Azerbaijan in August 2017, South Korea was selected as the host country for the 25th World Scout Jamboree. Korea Post is issuing a commemorative stamp to celebrate this occasion with high hopes of successful hosting in Saemangeum this summer. Referring to `a joyful, noisy gathering,` the World Scout Jamboree is typically attended by 43,000 young Scouts and leaders from 170 participating countries. Founded by Robert Baden-Powell in 1907 the Scouting program became a venue for attendees to meet, make exchanges and build rapport to help youths grow as global citizens, transcending cultures, ethnicities, and ideologies. The very first World Scout Jamboree was held at Olympia London in 1920 with about 8,000 Scouts from 34 countries. Thereafter, a Jamboree has been held every four years and has since become an international success. The 25th World Scout Jamboree will be held in Saemangeum, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do Province from August 1 to 12 this year under the theme of `Draw your Dream.` This slogan represents the heart of Scouts who will be the future of the Scout Movement, showing that they are the ones who create the World Scout Jamboree as they wish based on their own dreams. The Jamboree site in Saemangeum is a vast coastal strip, covering a total area of 8.8 ㎢ for attendees to enjoy the natural environment of the tidal flat facing the Yellow Sea. The venue is designed for Scouts from around the world to experience Scouting in Korea through a wide range of activities including camping, rock climbing, trekking and water sports while build friendships with Scouts from different cultures. The commemorative stamp features Saebeomi, the official mascot of the 25th World Scout Jamboree. As a mystical animal that inhabits Korea’s spiritual Baekdusan Mountain, Saebeomi represents the bravery of the young Scouts joining this year`s Jamboree. We hope that this commemorative stamp serves as an opportunity to highlight the bravery of the young Scouts ahead of the upcoming 25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 in Saemangeum where exchanges and friendships will bloom.
