Detail
`The year 1994 will be the 600th anniversary of Seoul`s foundation as Korea`s capital. The government has designated the year 1994 as ``Visit Korea Year 1994`` and prepared various cultural events for the long-term development of the tourism industry. So the Ministry of Communications issues 2 kinds of commemorative postage stamps. As the tourism industry`s share of nation`s economy has become more significant in the era of internationalization, more efforts are being made to foster tourism as nation`s strategic industry throughout the world. ``Visit a country Year`` program was first introduced in the United States in 1960 and since then a number of countries have carried out the program with great success. The government expects to attract 4.5 million visitors from overseas and 5 billion dollars in revenue from tourism through the ``Visit Korea Year 1994`` program. The Ministry of Communications issues 2 kind of postage stamps, one featuring ``Visit Korea Year 1994`` emblem, and the other, a folk Janggu drum dance with the emblem to attract more attention to ``Visit Korea Year 1994`` throughout the world. The Ministry of Communications also hopes that the issuance will promote the program as a national event.`
