Detail
`To develop the domestic tourism industry and promote the nation`s internationalization efforts, the Korean government has declared 1994 as ``Visit Korea Year``, when the Koreans commemorate the 600th anniversary of Seoul`s foundation as Korea`s capital. The government is ready to welcome foreign visitors with a colorful variety of events and activities introducing Korea`s traditional culture and time-honored history.
With the advent of the internationalization era, the tourism industry has been rapidly expanding, contributing to the earning of foreign exchange, the creation of job opportunities and the improvement of the overall income level. The tourism industry is now in the limelight as one of the three major industries in the 21st century, together with environmental and high-tech industry. Riding on this trend, the government has prepared Visit Korea Year 1994 as a part of efforts to develop various tourism products and services. The gala opening festival will be followed by a PATP(Pacific Area Travel Association) conference, tourism exhibitions, events of culture and arts, and international sports events throughout the year.
Hoping to attract worldwide attention to Korea and engage the entire nation in the ``Be Kind`` campaign on the occasion of Visit Korea Year 1994, the Ministry of Communications issues two kinds of commemorative postage stamps, featuring ``A Piper and Clouds`` and ``T`alch`um, Korea`s traditional mask dance.```
