`The Seoul Tower was opened to the public in 1980, and has since become one of the celebrated sights of Seoul not only for us, but for foreign tourists as well. Rising 480m above sea level, the Tower, with a total floor space of about 13,700㎡, stands at the very peak of Mt. Namsan where the new-born Chosun Dynasty used to light beacon fires for the security of its new capital, the present City of Seoul. Constituted of a concrete structure, which is the main part, and a tower of skeletal iron built on top of it, the Tower serves as a comprehensive radio transmision and reception tower, and performed its function to the full during the Seoul Olympics. It has a variety of facilities for the public installed inside it, including a rotating observation floor and a marine museum. During the night, the Tower commands a breath-taking view of downtown Seoul, which provides a fantastic picture that colorfully combines the headlights of moving vehicles, the brilliant neon lights of high-rise buildings and street lamps. and the beautiful reflections on the serene waters of the Han-River flowing through the City. The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Seoul Tower to the public, which, in addition to being a tourist attraction will be handed down to our posterity as a piece of cultural heritage.`
