`Jamboree which means ``gay party``, or ``festival gathering`` symbolizes hope for youths worldwide. Under the theme of ``many lands, one world`` the 17th World Jamboree will be held in Kosung, Kang won-do, Korea from August 8 to 16, 1991. This international event has been held every 4 years since the first World Jamboree in 1920. A ``Jamboree`` is a large outdoor gathering of the Boy Scouts members, usually nationwide or international in scope. The name has been used since Sir Baden-powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, called the first world camping assembly ``World Jamboree``.
THe Scout movement which boasts 250 million members worldwide is an organiztion which trains youths through collective activites. In particular, it places special emphasis on good citizenship, leadership, as well as development of his own potential to the fullest extent in order to contribute to their country and toward world peace.
The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the 17th World Jamboree which transcends nationality, color, religion, or language, bringing the global community together through youths of the earth village who are the hope for the future.`
