`The 24th Olympiad, which opened in Seoul on September 17, 1988, with the whole world watching in great excitement, came to a grand finale on October 2, leaving a mixed feeling of wistfulness and joyfulness in the hearts of the departing participants.
The Seoul Games were not only the largest in scale in history with as many as 160 participating countries, Eastern and Western countries meeting again in twelve years, but were also more festival of understanding and friendship, and harmony and peace, in addition to being an arena of rigorous athletic competition.
The Olympic Games provided us with an opportunity to show the world our age-old culture, along with our potentiality as a modern nation, heightening our national pride and strength our national unity.
The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the successful completion of the XXIVth Seoul Olympiad, which has opened an unforgettable chapter of our history.`
