Detail
`It has traditionally been one of our most cherished values to live in an extended family, in which the parents are duly respected and obeyed by their offspring, who in turn are loved and provided with wisdom of life by them. This beatiful tradition is, however, being seriously challenged as a result of the rapid social change brought about by industrialization and the growth of the nuclear family.
Among the more serious of problems facting the aged of today are economic incapasity, loneliness and sufferings from geriatric diseases.
It goes without saying that the government should provide really workable and effective welfare policy for the aged, but it is also imperative that all of us the younger generation have ceaseless concern about their them lead their lives with dignity and in comfort as full members of our society.
The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in order to make an occasion for entire nation to stop and reflect deeply on this serious problem and join a national effort to help the aged.`
