Detail
`Rotary International is a world-wide organization of local clubs of business and professional people who are devoted to serving the community and promoting mutual understanding, friendship, and world peace through harmony amng people. Seoul hosts its 1989 convention from May 21 to 25.
The Rotary Club was created in 1905 by Paul P. Harris, a young American lawyer, and three of his friends, whose concern about people`s harts becoming harder and harder brought them together in the belief that the best way to improve society was promoting friendship and harmony among its members. The Rotary Club movement initiated by them to pratice their belief has since grown steadily until today, when there are more than 20,000 clubs with over a million members in about 160 countries and regions. In Korea, the movement started in 1927, when Kyongseong Rotary Club joined Rotary International , and in 1961 had 11 clubs, obtaining recognition as an independent region, which has today multiplied to as many as seven.
The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the 1989 Seoul Convention of Rotary International and also in recognition of the organization`s achievements in promoting international amity, world peace and harmony among people all over the world.`
