Detail
`President and Mrs. Virgilio Barco of the Republic of Colombia makes a state visit to Korea for three days, September 8-10, 1987, at the invitation of President Chun Doo Hwan.
Colombia, with an area of 1,138,914㎢, is located at the north-western end of the Continent of South America. Although most of its land is in the tropical zone, the climate of the country is varied because of the varied heights of the land.
With a 27,860,000 population, consisting of a number of different tribes, speaking Spanish as the offical language, the country produces among other things coffee and coal, and its per capita national income stands at $1,240.
Colombia is very special to us because it is the only South American country that participated in the Korean War to fight against communist aggression. The formal diplomatic relations were established in 1962 between us and the country, which has today Korean enterprises doing business.
The Ministry of Communications issues this postage stamp, in commemoration of President and Mrs.Virgilio Barco`s state visit to our country and also as a token of the heartfelt welcome our nation extends to them.`
