`At its 37th session, on November 16, 1982, the Unted Nations General Assembly decided to designate 1986 as International Year of Peace and promulgated it on October 24,1985, the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations.
The main objectives of the International Year of Peace are: first, to induce from the UN member states, various international organizations, cultural, education, academic bodies, and the mass media all over the world enthusiasthic and effective activities designed to promote international peace, security and cooperation, as stated in the UN charter, and solve international disputes in a peaceful manner second, to strengthen UN, the principal international organization that is exerting all its powers for the maintenance and promotion of international peace and third, to a attract the attention of the whole world to peace, the conition most urgently regiured of the world today.
The Ministry of Communications issues these postage stamps to commemorate the International Year of Peace and also make it widely known to the public.`
