`The Ministry of Communications is issuing a series of postage stamps featuring Korean fishes. The first set of the series was issued in 1985, and the following four kinds of stamps are its 2nd set:
1. Eoreumchi
This fish, indigenous to our country, is found in the Cheoungpyung River and streams in Hweyang, and has recently been found to be living in in a streaming in Yangu also. Its characteristic features are that it has a relatively large body with a round mouth, a black spot, on the surface and a clear arrowhead black spot on the tail. Its whole length is 250㎜ when it is fully grown.
2. Sweetfish
A ond-year-life fish, coming up streams in the warm northeastern region of Asia, the sweetfish is distributed over a large area including Korea, Japan and China. It has a grey color with a dark bluish green tint, and the nearer it is to the belly, the lighter the color becomes. It has a well developed caudal fin and grows to 700㎜ in length.
3. Sardine
In our country, the sardine is distributed along the eastern and southwestern coast. It is dark blue on the back and silver white on the sides and belly, and is about 250㎜ In length.
4. Hammerhead shark
This fish lives in the south sea of our country, especially in the waters off Pusan, Mokpo and Cheju Island. It is also distributed in the seas to the south of Hokkaido of Japan, in the eastern Pacific Ocean and the warm and tropical waters of the Atlantic and the lndian Ocean. Shaped in the form of the letter ``T ``, it is greyish blue. With disproportionately large pectoral fins, this shark can grow to a length of 4,000㎜.`
