`Thy year 1987 marks an epoch in the Korean telecommunications have finally risen to the advanced level of the world. Remarkable progress has been made in Korean telecommunications since 1980 : the facilities for telephone services have continuously been extended, a Korean-type of all-electronic telephone exchange has been developed and put to practical use, thus the problem of the backlog of subscription orders has been solved and the whole country has been turned into an instant telephone communication zone. It is expected that the number of telephone circuits will reach ten million within the year so that the age of one telephone per household will start. The Government has designated 1987 as the Year of Communications for Information Society in order to help the nation`s understanding of the role of telecommunications and their techonogical possibilities and to promote among the people a bright image of our future society of information.`
