`The year 1984 marks the centennial of the Korean postal administration. In commemoration of this occation, the International Philatelic Exhibition PHILAKOREA 84 is held in Seoul from October 22 through 31, 1984.
The Ministry of Communications has, therefore, decided to issue a series of postage stamps designed to show the past and present states of the Korean postal service, The series will be issued until next year in five installments, of which the following two are the Third :
1. Conveyance of Postal Matter During the Pre-Modern Korea Period
In the Pre-Modern Korea period, there used to be a ``postal station`` system, in which mail was carried on horses shuttling between stations. The system, however, was operated not for public use but solely for military and official use.
2. Conveyance of Postal Matter Today
Today, thanks to the development of transportation, mail is carried by automobile, by train, by plane and by ship, as well as on foot.`
