Detail
`His Majesty HusseinⅠ, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, makes a state visit to Korea September 10 through 13, 1983, at the invitation of President Chun Doo Hwan. Jordan is located in the center of the Middle East, bordered on the west by Israel, on the north by Syria, on the east by Iraq, and on the south by Saudi Arabia. It is a country of 97,740㎢ land area and a 2.98 million Arabic-speaking population, 90 percent Moslem, which exports, chiefly, agricultural products, phosphate rocks and leather. Jordan, which has traditionally maintained a pro-Western policy of non-alignment, is now promoting extensive diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union and other Communist countries of the Eastern Europe in pursuit of economic interests. Jordan has been maintaining friendly relations with our country, supporting us in the United Nations and other international conferences, including those of non-aligned nations, ever since 1962 when the formal diplomatic relations were established between the two countries. This visit to our country by King Hussein is expected to promote the personal relations between the two leaders, strenhth the existing friendly ties between the two nations, and contribute greatly to the improvement of our relations with other Arab nations. TheMinistry of Communications issues this postage stamp in commemoration of the state visit to Korea by King Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and also as a sign of the hearty welcome our nation gives to His Majesty.`
