`The 64th National Sports Festival, with ``Powerful Physical Strength, Solid Unity, Splendid March Forward`` as its slogan, is held for six days from October 6 through 11, 1983, in the City of Inchon, which is celebrating the centennial anniversary of its opening as a port.
This 64th Festival, especially meanignful in that it could serve as an occasion of evaluation of our athletic srtength in preparation for the `86 Asian Games and `88 Olympics scheduled to be hosted by our country, is expected to be participated in by more than 18,000 athletes and officials from all over the country, who will compete in 27 events including athletics, soccer, swimming, etc. and in the four demonstration events, modern pantathron (only three categories this year), roller skating, yaching and bowling.
The annual national sports festival contributes greatly to cultivating perseverance and unity through fierce competition, strengthening law-abiding spirit through rigorous application of rules, and enlightening the public on the spirit of fair play. It has also been an arena where the strong tenacity and potential strength of our nation were cultivated to inhance our national prestige in international arenas.
The Ministry of Communications issues these commemorative postage stamps for our youths who will do their very best for the honor of the city or province they represent, and also for the true spotsmanship that will be exemplified by them, in this national sports festival.`
