`President and Mrs. Chun Doo Hwan make state visits to Burma, India, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand October 8-25, 1983 at the invitation of the Presidents of the three Southwest Asian countries and the Governor General of Australia and the Prime Minister of New Zealand.
During his 18-day trip, President Chun will have a series of summit talks with the leaders of the five host nations : President U San Yu of Burma, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of India, President Junius Richard Jayewardene of Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Robert Hawke of Australia, and Prime Minister Robert D. Muldoon of New Zealand. In the summitries with the three Southwest Asian and the two Oceanian leaders, President Chun will exchange views on the recent international and regional situation, and discuss matters of mutual interest as well as ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
In view of the great influence the three Southwest Asian states have on the Third World, it is expected that President Chun`s visits to them will become an epoch-making occasion for consolidating the grounwork of our diplomacy with the Third World. His talks with the Oceanian leaders will center on ways to increase economic cooperation.
The Ministry of Communications issues these postage stamps in commemoration of this series of state visits President Chun Doo Hwan is making to Burma, India, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand.`
