Detail
`President and Mrs. Junius Richard Jayewardene of Sri Lanka make a state visit to Korea May 27-30, 1984 at the invitation of President Chun Doo Hwan. Located to the south of India, Sri Lanka has an area of 65,608㎢, with a population of15 million. Its people are composed mainly of Singhaleses and Tamils. The official languages are Tamil and Singhaleses. Korea established formal diplimatic relations with the county in 1977, and the relations between the two countries have since been smooth. In recent years Korean construction enterprises have entered Sri Lanka, and this is greatly helping to promote the cooperative relation, which are expected to be further heightened by the visit. President Jayewardene will have summit talks with President Chun during the visit. The two Presidents will exchange their views on matters of mutual interest at the talks. The Ministry of Communications issues this commemorative stamp as a sign of the hearty welcome our nation extends to President and Mrs. Junius Richard Jayewarene of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.`
