`The year 1984 marks the 90th anniversary of the foundatin of the international Olympic Committee(IOC). The IOC, founded in 1894 Baron Pierre de Coubertin, with its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, aims to encourage the organization and development of sport and sports competitions, to promote and strengthen friendship between the sportsmen of all countries, to ensure the regular celebration of the Olympic Games, and to make the Olympic Games ever more worthy of their glorious history and high ideals. For the furtherance of the Olympic Movement throughout the world, the IOC recognizes the Naltional Olympic Committees as the authorities which represent their respective countries at the Olympic Games and other events held under the patronage of the IOC. The Korean Olympic Committee, founded in 1946 and affiliated to the IOC in 1947, at the 41st IOC Session held in Stockgon, has been playion the leading role in promoting the Olympic Movement and echancing the Olytmpic ideals in Korea. The Ministry of Communications issues this stamp in order to commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the IOC`s lnauguration, and to help promote the Olympic spirit in Korea, thecountry which has been bestowed the privilege to stage the 1988 Olympic Games as well as the 1986 Asian Games.`
