`The 23rd Olympic Games are held in Los Angeles, the United States, over the 16-day period from July 28 through August 12, 1984. The 1984 Olympic Games are expected to be the Olympic festival of the largest scale in history, which will be participated by some 16,000 athletes and officials from 142 different countries. The athletes will compete under the slogan ``More Speed, More Height and More Power`` for the honor of the countries they represent. The events competed in the Los Angeles Olympic number21: track and field, rowing, basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, equertrian sports, fencing, soccer, gymnastics, weight lifting, handball, hockey, judo, wrestling, swimming and diving, pantathlon, shooting, archery, yachting and volleyball. The games of baseball and tennis are to be held as demonstration events. Our country will participate in 19 events: boxing, wrestling, judo, shooting, track and field, weight lifting, swimming, pantathlon, volldyball, archery, cycling, rowing, fencing, gymnastics, canoeing, yachting and equestrian sports. The Los Angelds Olympic Games are of special significance to us because the Olympic Games after the Los Angeles Games are residing in Los Angeles. One of the two kinds of stamp issued carry the denomination of 440 won, which is the air mail rate between Korea and Los Angeles. The denomination has been so fixed that it will help correpondence between pepole here in Korea and their relatives in Los Angeles. The Ministry of Communications issues these commemorative stamps in the hope that the Los Angeles Olympic Games will contribute to world peace.`
