Detail
`President Luis Alberto Monge of the Republic of Costa Rica makes a state visit to Korea for five days from May 19 to 23, 1985, at the invitation of President Chun Doo Hwan.
The Republic, with an area of 51,100㎢ and a population of 2.46 million, whose per capita income was 1,242 dollars in 1983, is a country of scenic beauty located in the south of Central America, between Panama and Nicaragua. The country is often called the Switzerland of Central Ameria.
Although persuing pro-Western diplomatic policy, Costa Rica is also maintaining friendly relations with almost all the countries of the world. The formal relations between the country and Korea were established in 1962, and President Carazo paid a state visit to our country in 1981.
The Ministry of Communications issues this commemorative postage stamp as a token of the hearty welcome our nation extends to President Monge on this memorable occasion of his state visit to our country.`
